The Northwestern Wildcats carry former Navy SEAL Tom Hruby off the field after beating Purdue senseless in Week 11. Veterans Day was on Friday.

Not only did the Northwestern Wildcats get one win closer to bowl eligibility on Saturday by clobbering Big Ten West rival Purdue, but Northwestern did something really cool with one of their favorite players.

Running back/linebacker Tom Hruby is 32 years old and a former Navy SEAL for the United States of America. He doesn’t play a glamorous position, but his teammates decided to carry him off the field the day after Veterans Day 2016.

Northwestern would beat Purdue badly, 45-17, but briefly trailed in this game. The goal for the Wildcats was to get Hruby a touchdown or something in this blowout of awful Purdue. When Northwestern couldn’t get Hruby into the end zone, the Wildcats decided to put the big guy on their shoulders and carry him around in victory.

Hruby didn’t get to go college in the traditional route, as he had previously been a Navy SEAL. He has since retired from active military service, but gets to live his dream playing Division I college football for a strong Big Ten program in Northwestern.

The Wildcats needs to beat either the Minnesota Golden Gophers or the arch rival Illinois Fighting Illini to reach bowl eligibility in 2016. Minnesota on the road is going to be very tough for the Wildcats, but beating the Fighting Illini at home Thanksgiving Weekend is definitely manageable.
