20. team. 55. For the third time in their last four games, the Steelers defense allowed a running back to gain at least 100 yards rushing in a game. In the case of Dallas’ Ezekiel Elliott, they also permitted the star rookie to frustrate them as a pass catcher. And even with Le’Veon Bell back and performing well, the game plan saw Pittsburgh total 19 running plays and 46 passing plays in their 35-30 home loss to the Cowboys. The continued failures on the two-point conversion attempts will be a big topic of discussion. But for a team struggling to stop the run as of late, head coach Mike Tomlin and his staff may have outthought themselves this week.
Next Week: The Steelers will play four of their next five games on the road. Up next are the 0-10 Cleveland Browns, who have actually lost 13 consecutive games dating back to the 2015 season. Including a playoff encounter way back in 2002, Pittsburgh has prevailed in 28 of the last 32 encounters between these longtime rivals.

Playoff hopes: Fortunately for the Black and Gold, the division is certainly still within reach. But you can’t continue to play defense the way the Steelers have for the last month or so and remain in the playoff chase. The Steelers still have four divisional games remaining on the schedule and AFC encounters with the Colts and Bills. But this team is slowly but surely digging itself a tricky little hole.
. 4-5.
