Tony Romo says Dak Prescott earned starting quarterback position
By Casey Knipl
In an admirable move, Tony Romo has admitted publicly that his rookie teammate is best suited to lead the Dallas Cowboys for the time being.
The Dallas Cowboys are having their best season in years, leading the NFC East with a record of 8-1 thanks to quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliot. The story that has overshadowed their strong season, though, is the debate over whether or not to start Tony Romo over Prescott once he returned from injury.
Well, that time has come and the question is finally answered at a press conference the more veteran QB attended today. Romo took the time to finally put the question to rest, which he said was “in the best interest of the team.”
Romo also talked about how difficult this injury was for him, which came at a time where he believed he had the best team he’s ever had. Watching Prescott thrive in the system didn’t make that time easier. “You almost feel like an outsider,” Romo said.
Romo’s statement was powerful, emotional and displayed his leadership qualities, even if they’re not going to be seen on the field.
The decision to start Prescott was all but confirmed by Jerry Jones on Tuesday when he said Prescott “won’t be looking over his shoulder.” The big win against the Steelers on Sunday also played a major part in solidifying that starting position.
For now, Tony Romo will continue to play a major role in helping mentor Prescott. Jerry Jones recently said that Tony Romo has been great about the situation while helping Prescott and may have a future in coaching. Before that time comes, it’ll be interesting to see what this means for the rest of Romo’s career, and if it will continue with the Cowboys.

For now, the Cowboys can finally focus on what’s been their best season in a long time (so far, anyway), even if that means a new face at the quarterback position.
