Louisville was hoping to be in the top four after last week’s college football madness in which three teams ahead of the Cardinals lost. However, they come in at No. 5 and will need to win out and hope for more upsets this week if they’re going to get into the playoff.
Surprise, surprise. Lamar Jackson continues to reign atop the Heisman Trophy race as he finished with nearly 300 yards and a touchdown last week — and that’s an off-game for him. On the season, he has 46 total touchdowns to go along with 2,898 passing yards and 1,334 rushing yards. The cardinals, as a team, average an incredible 6.7 yards per rush.
James Quick, Jamari Staples and Cole Hikutini lead the team in receiving and have provided a punch in the pass game. Each of them have over 500 yards receiving while Jaylen Smith is the next to approach that mark at 487 yards.
Houston, on the other hand, started the season ranked 15th but after losses to SMU and Navy over the past month, the Cougars’ hype train has seemingly left the station. Houston is no longer considered a dark-horse playoff threat and the 8-2 Cougars aren’t even in the Top 25.
The Cougars also have an elite quarterback of its own in Greg Ward Jr. who was a Heisman candidate at the beginning of the year. He has passed for 2,608 yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for 429 yards and nine scores.
Moreover, Ward Jr. has three receivers with over 500 yards as well. Linell Bonner leads the way, followed by Chance Allen and Steven Dunbar. This game will be much closer than expected.
