Losing Seth Russell to a gruesome ankle injury for the remainder of the season hurts, but freshman Zach Smith will get some valuable experience. He is completing just 45 percent of his passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns on the season, though.
Smith will have to rely on a strong run game led by Terence Williams and Shock Linwood while also leaning on KD Cannon to be his top receiver. The talented junior wide out leads the team with 47 catches for 682 yards and eight scores.
Kansas State has been the Big 12’s middle-of-the-pack team, sitting at 5-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Wildcats have shown some promise this season but have also struggled against ranked teams. This is a good chance for the Wildcats to record a nice win on the road.
Jesse Ertz has been the team’s top offensive performer at quarterback even though he’s been a mediocre passer. He’s passed for just over 1,100 yards and seven touchdowns with a completion rate of 57 percent and he leads the team in rushing as well.
The Wildcats have averaged over 200 rushing yards per game this season and that has been their strength. Ertz leads the way with 630 yards and nine scores while Charles Jones is close behind with 509 yards and two touchdowns.
