The Kansas Jayhawks football team doesn’t win very often. So why wouldn’t the Kansas student section destroy the goal post after beating Texas in overtime?

The Kansas Jayhawks upset the Texas Longhorns on Saturday night in overtime, 24-21. Kansas was able to pick off a Shane Buechele pass in overtime, winning on a Matthew Wyman chip-shot field goal.

Kansas is a basketball school and an outstanding one at that. The Jayhawks rarely win on the gridiron, so it’s only natural for the Kansas student section to destroy and take a goal post for its own after the big win over Texas.

This was Kansas’ first Big 12 win of the season. The last time the Jayhawks defeated the Longhorns in football, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was President of the United States of America and the year was 1938.

While Kansas rarely topples goal posts, the Jayhawk students only did it a year ago for different reasons. When the Kansas City Royals won the 2015 World Series over the New York Mets, Kansas students toppled the Memorial Stadium goal post and threw it into nearby Potter Lake.

Is this goal post destined to join its long-lost brother in the darkest depths of Potter Lake? Could this pair of uprights make it to the hardwood, gracing its presence in the sacred Allen Fieldhouse?

Let’s be real. It’s probably going into the lake. Fantastic Goal Posts and Where to Find Them. The Lawrence campus is about to get rowdier than the Gryffindor common room after Harry Potter defeated the Hungarian Horntail in the Triwizard Tournament.
