Chipotle offering free burritos to Ohio State Buckeyes fans
By David Rouben
At Ohio’s Chipotle chains this Saturday, in anticipation for The Game, you can get free burritos just by wearing an Ohio State jersey.
Ohio State vs. Michigan is a classic rivalry, and when gameday arrives, both campuses shut down. Even though it’s been a fairly one-sided match recently, this year’s edition is easily the most anticipated one since 2006. With a playoff berth on the line, as well as a potential spot in the Big Ten Championship Game, both sides know they can’t afford to slip up.
Since The Game is in Columbus this year, that gives Ohio State a natural edge. And Chipotle wants to capitalize on that home-field advantage by offering free burritos to the good guys. According to NBC Columbus, every Chipotle store in Ohio will be offering a buy-one-get-one free promotion for anyone who orders a burrito, salad, or taco. All you have to do is wear a Buckeyes jersey.
The promotion will be going on from 10:45 am to 10 pm on game day. That way, if the Buckeyes win, fans can go to Chipotle to celebrate. And if they lose, they can commiserate there, and at least take solace in the fact that they’re getting free food.
Even though they tell Michigan fans that they can only enjoy full-priced burritos, it wouldn’t be surprising if some locations just turn them away. Even if the servers are happy to take their orders, it’d be hard for them to enjoy burritos in a restaurant full of Buckeyes fans. And if they try to hide their Michigan pride by wearing a Buckeyes jersey over top, they might just get a loogie in their burrito.

This is a great promotion, and one that more restaurants should be capitalizing on. For example, McDonald’s and Burger King should offer free burgers for anyone who wears a Joe Burger jersey. It’ll only add more fuel to the fire in what will be a fantastic rivalry game. And it ensures that, no matter the outcome, Buckeyes fans will be happy.
