Here’s how you can watch Thursday afternoon’s Illinois vs West Virginia game from the Barclays Center online.
West Virginia comes into the NIT Tip-off tourney ranked No. 19 in the country, and the Mountaineers are looking like one of the most potent offensive teams out there. In fact, they’re averaging 98 points per game, currently fifth in the country.
It’s not that the Mountaineers are top-heavy in the scoring column with a couple of guys averaging over 20 points per game, though. In fact, no one averages more than 13 points per game, and there are eight players averaging at least seven points per game.
Can West Virginia remain red hot in this one and take it to one of the teams in the Big Ten? The winner will head to the tournament’s title game.
Illinois started the season 4-0, but the Fighting Illini dropped a tough one against Winthrop last week in overtime. It wasn’t the way John Groce was hoping his season started, but the four wins were a nice building block. West Virginia presents the toughest test thus far.
The Illini have been one of the better offensive units in the country. Malcolm Hill is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 20.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while shooting about 49 percent from three-point range.
With less than elite competition faced this season thus far, the Illinois might have their hands full with West Virginia. However, they are one of the best shooting teams in the nation, making over 50 percent of their field goals and 44 percent of their threes.
