Christian Eriksen put Tottenham up 1-0 against Chelsea with a powerful left-footed finish.

Tottenham were knocked out of the Champions League midweek, and faced a tough task to bounce back against Chelsea in the league. But Spurs got off to an excellent start and took the lead thanks to a fabulous Christian Eriksen strike in the 11th minute.

The Blues have struggled to find any sort of rhythm in the opening exchanges, but will be confident they can find a way back into the match given the run of form they’re on.

Chelsea would move back into top spot, a point ahead of both Liverpool and Manchester City, if they are able to stage a come back. They will remain third with a loss or a draw. The Blues have been in exceptional form since losing to Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates back in September. They hadn’t conceded a goal since the first half of that loss, scoring 17 of their own.

The catalyst for the current run of form was manager Antonio Conte’s decision to switch to three-man back line. The new formation has given Eden Hazard a new level of freedom in attack while also shoring up what had been a jittery back line.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are hoping to move back into the top four. They’ve fallen behind in the title race over the past few months, despite being the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League. Their struggles in attack have seen them draw six of their first 12 matches, scoring only 18 goals, at least seven fewer than any of the teams in the top four.

But a statement win against Chelsea could go a long way to reinvigorating a side that seems to have lost its mojo in the past couple of months.
