The Michigan Wolverines fumbled the ball on the goal line against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday.

Coming away with points is an absolute must in the red zone. Everyone wants touchdowns on the drive but they’ll settle for a field goal if they have to. Not coming away with points is a very deflating thing to happen to a team. The Michigan Wolverines learned the hard way in the third quarter on Saturday.

As they were on the goal line of the Ohio State Buckeyes, they only had to punch the ball in extend their lead 10 points. Center Mason Cole would fumble the snap in some miscommunication with Wilton Speight and the ball would hit the ground.

Ohio State’s DaVon Hamilton would recover the football and the Wolverines’ drive ultimately ended with zero points on the board. It’s a reminder of just how important communication between the quarterback and center is in plays like this. Give credit to Hamilton for having the awareness to jump on the football right away to give his team a chance.

Michigan thought they were going to get some added insurance, but a mistimed snap left it in the hands of their opponent. The good news is they would get the ball right back in good field position and would be able to get a touchdown to extend their lead 17-7. The offense had their moments on Saturday, but this is one of those things they will probably continue to work on so they can get it right for the future.
