Jeff Fisher believes San Diego RB Danny Woodhead still plays for New England
By Mark Gunnels
First, Jeff Fisher has been accused of pushing Eric Dickerson away from the Rams sidelines and now he doesn’t realize Danny Woodhead isn’t a member of the New England Patriots anymore.
It’s been a rough 48 hours for Jeff Fisher. To open the week, Fisher and the entire Los Angeles Rams organization had to deal with an ongoing controversy surrounding franchise legend Eric Dickerson. According to Dickerson, Fisher told him the players are ‘uncomfortable’ with him on the sidelines, considering that he’s been critical of the team on his radio show.
Since then, Fisher has stated that Dickerson is always welcomed because the respect he has for the Hall of Famer. As Fisher and his team attempt to move on to the New England Patriots, it appears Fisher’s mind isn’t quite all the way there. During a conference call on Wednesday, Fisher raved about New England’s running backs.
First, Fisher complimented Brandon Bolden for his work out of the backfield. However, there are a couple major issues here. Bolden mainly plays on special teams and has only one carry and two receptions on the season, so how impressed can you be Coach?
As bad as that was, nothing compares to his mistake when the coach who is closing in on being the all-time leader in losses for a head coach. Fisher still thinks Chargers running back plays for the Pats. The problem is, Woodhead hasn’t played for them since 2012.
Maybe Fisher was just going through the motions of a conference call, something he’s done hundreds of times and had a moment where his memory escaped. It wouldn’t be the first time a coach has let that happen to him, but it’s not like Woodhead played with the Pats last year. Woodhead has been on the Chargers for four seasons and to make matters worse, he’s been out since suffering a season-ending injury in Week 2.

So what film is Fisher watching in preparation for the Patriots? He must think their guard John Hannah is a real road-grader and Tedy Bruschi is an emotional leader too. Better not throw on Ty Law or try to run on Richard Seymour or Willie McGinest and that defense either.
