ESPN College Pick Em Picks Week 14

I can’t believe that the college football season is almost over! Where has the time gone? It has been a very interesting year, as you can tell by my lackluster against the spread picks, and my average pick em picks.

More from College Football Odds

I only got 36 points last week. Putting so many points on Wyoming when no one else did, and Louisville losing outright hurt my week.

I now sit at 481 points, which is a decent total. It puts me in the 85th percentile. However, it is not nearly enough in the Fantasy CPR readers group! I find myself completely out of the running for the top slot, and likely out of the top three. I would need a miracle for the top five as well. Most of the top had a good week.

So, I guess I have to make a goal for myself. I would need to beat the person in fifth place by 34 points this week to move into the top five. With only 55 points possible, I would have to have a flawless week, and he would have to have a monumentally bad one. I am hoping to close out with my best week of the year, which would be anything over 50. That’s a good goal. I will go with that.

Here are my ESPN College Pick Em picks for the final week! They are in order from least confidence (1) to most (10) for those of you that play the confidence version like I do.

(1) Temple over Navy:

You know me. I’m not just going to throw something like this out here without providing a reason. One, the conference championship game happens before Navy’s last game of the season, the annual clash with Army. The Army game is more important no matter what the media may tell you. Navy could be looking ahead. Another is that Temple has been white-hot over the last month and a half. After an awful loss to Army in the opener, Temple only lost twice more. Once was to Memphis, who is going to a good bowl. The other is to Penn State, who handed Ohio State their only loss, and is playing for the Big Ten(14) Championship. The body of work actually favors the Owls.

(2) Kansas State over TCU:

The purple battle has been enjoyable since TCU joined the Big 12(10). This will likely be another one of those games. What I see here is a mostly forgotten Kansas State team. Both teams lost to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and West Virginia. K-State beat Texas Tech where the Toadies could not. The Wildcats also stayed more competitive with Oklahoma State and West Virginia. The stats favor K-State by a comfortable enough margin to pick them on the road.

(3) Wyoming over San Diego State:

Yes, this is a rematch of a game just two short weeks ago. A game that was also in Laramie. A game that Wyoming won 34-33. Expect a similar game and similar result since all of the intangibles are the same.

(4): Penn State over Wisconsin:

Trace McSorley is a better quarterback than Alex Hornibrook. Saquon Barkley is the best player on the field. Oh, and the Penn State defense is better. This game stays close, but Penn State would have to have a few monumentally bad turnovers in order to lose this game.

(5) Western Kentucky over Louisiana Tech:

This is also a rematch, but it is a rematch of one of the most enjoyable games of the season. The teams combined for 107 total points in a Louisiana Tech 55-52 win. The Hilltoppers scored three fourth quarter touchdowns, but couldn’t quite get over the hump. The difference here is that this game is in Bowling Green. The first one was in Reston.

(6) Clemson over Virginia Tech:

I will get this out of the way right now: if the Hokies hadn’t stumbled against Georgia Tech, I would have picked them to win this game. I still think they might. That just shows you how tough it is to pick the games this week. I am putting the marquee games higher in a balls-out attempt to gain a lot more points while my opponents either lose or gain far less than I will. I wont be one bit surprised if the Hokies win though. Clemson is very lucky they don’t have three losses already.

(7) Grambling State over Alcorn State:

An overwhelming majority of ESPN College Pick Em players will have this game very low because these teams are unknown to many who follow the game closely, let alone those than don’t pay a lot off attention to it. All you need to know here is that Grambling pounded Alcorn 43-18 in September. The Tigers also scared the pants off of Arizona, only losing by ten.

(8) West Virginia over Baylor:

The Bears are a wreck. They were headed that way even before they lost Seth Russell yet again. KD Cannon is impressive. So is Shock Linwood. However, it takes 22 players to win a game. The Bears only have two.

(9) Oklahoma over Oklahoma State:

Is this homerism? Maybe. Wishful thinking? Maybe. Overly aggressive to try and win? Damn right! Seriously though, the Sooners have never won a conference title on their own field. This is going to be a huge day in Norman, one that I really wish I could be around for. The Sooners dominated Oklahoma State last year in Stillwater to secure an unlikely playoff berth. It would take a meltdown of 2007-like proportions to get the Sooners into the playoffs, but they are going to play this game like they still have a shot. The committee bylaws state that heavy consideration will be given to conference champions. Where does that leave Ohio State?

(10) Alabama over Florida:

It should be an embarrassment to call this a championship game. The Big Ten(14) and Big 12(10) both have teams that are very close, at least on paper. So does the Pac 12. Even the ACC game isn’t a given. This one is. There are maybe two teams that could hang with Alabama this year, and that may be stretching it. Florida is not one of them.
