To be fair, the Heisman Trophy is very much a quarterback/running back-driven award. It is truly rare to see a wide receiver be in serious consideration for college football’s highest individual honor. Though he may not get to New York, Oklahoma senior wideout Dede Westbrook has had a monstrous 2016 season for the Sooners.

He has 70 catches for 1,354 yards and 15 touchdowns in 11 games for Bob Stoops’ Sooners. Since the Red River Rivalry game in Dallas versus the arch rival Texas Longhorns, Westbrook has emerged as Mayfield’s favorite receiving target.

Westbrook’s yards per catch of 19.3 solidifies just how explosive he is in the Oklahoma passing game. Yes, the Big 12 does have some truly atrocious defenses, but Westbrook’s ability to be stretch the field and possession receive will make him a big time player on Sundays.

Oklahoma plays Oklahoma State in Norman for the Bedlam Series on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff from Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium will be at 12:30 p.m. ET. FOX will be carrying the game.
