Looking at when the 2016 College Football Playoff kicks off with four teams vying for a National Championship

For years, college football fans pined relentlessly for a playoff system and to get rid of the BCS. They’ve finally gotten their wish and the results have been incredibly entertaining. The College Football Playoff has been a resounding success to this point. You can argue about expansion to eight teams or whatever else, but the current process works far more fairly and competently than the BCS ever did.

And a season like 2016 is a huge example of why a playoff is so necessary. Entering conference championship Saturday, there was still so much left undecided. At this point, the only thing that feels certain is that the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ohio State Buckeyes, currently ranked No. 1 and 2 respectively, will be in. However, was Washington’s Pac-12 win enough to keep them in the College Football Playoff? What happens if Clemson loses in the ACC Championship?

It’s all so up in the air heading into the College Football Playoff selection show. We know which five or six teams will be in the mix, but how they shake out remains to be seen.

Even with all of this uncertainty, though, fans are still ready for the CFP to get underway. With such a busy bowl schedule, however, fans might be wondering when the College Football Playoff actually starts.

The semifinal games will be played on Dec. 31, 2016 in the Fiesta Bowl and Peach Bowl. New Year’s Eve will finally give the fans what they want in their CFP caliber matchup. A little more than a week later, the National Championship game will be played in Tampa, FL on Jan. 9, 2017.

So there you have it; there’s still a bit of a wait until the College Football Playoff kicks off. If the early playoffs have been any indication, though, it’ll be worth the wait.
