The Alabama Crimson Tide are already inside the heads of the Florida Gators. Here is Florida doing a pitiful job of just punting the football. It’s so bad.

It didn’t take long, but the Alabama Crimson Tide broke the Florida Gators mentally in the 2016 SEC Championship Game. After Florida punter Johnny Townsend had a blocked punt returned for a touchdown, his long snapper let him down on this terrible play for Florida.

Townsend would receive a snap too high to effectively punt the football deep in Florida territory. He would opt to run the football for the first down, only to be tackled for an 11-yard loss on the play.

That would be the second time in the first half that Alabama would start an offensive possession near the Florida red zone. Neither time would Alabama be able to punch it in the end zone. Alabama would not be able to take advantage of this outstanding field position, as Alabama kicker Adam Griffith would miss a chip-shot 40-yard field goal.

This 2016 SEC Championship Game has been all about the defense and special teams. Alabama struggled to move the chains on offense in the first quarter and in most of the first half. The Crimson Tide would get the bulk of their points on big plays from their defense and special teams units.

Florida cannot continue to be this careless will in possession of the football. To beat Alabama on a neutral site like the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Florida would have to win the turnover battle. The Gators are strong defensively, but certainly have their limitations as an offensive football team. Will Alabama continue to take advantage of offensive and special teams miscues from Florida.
