Penn State Nittany Lions quarterback Trace McSorley finds tight end Mike Gesicki at the back of the end zone for a ridiculous touchdown grab vs. Wisconsin.

The Penn State Nittany Lions are back in 2016 under third-year head coach James Franklin. Franklin has helped guide Penn State to the 2016 Big Ten Championship Game versus the Wisconsin Badgers at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

This conference championship game was tabbed as potentially the most evenly matched of those in the Power 5. Wisconsin was favored and led by 14 before Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley and tight end Mike Gesicki decided to put a dent in that deficit.

Down 14-0 in the 2016 Big Ten Championship Game, McSorley heaves a ball at the back of the Wisconsin end zone in the hopes that Gesicki could come down with it. Gesicki did and Penn State would cut the Wisconsin lead in half after the made PAT.

This is a huge game for both Penn State and Wisconsin. The winner has a shot at getting into the 2017 College Football Playoff, despite having two losses on the season. Wisconsin lost to Michigan and Ohio State in Big Ten play. Penn State lost to Michigan in Big Ten play and to in-state rival Pittsburgh in the non-conference.

Though the College Football Playoff Selection Committee may opt to go with a one-loss Ohio State team as an at-large, the winner of the 2016 Big Ten Championship would have a compelling case to reach the national semifinals.

The winner of this game will need help from the Virginia Tech Hokies in the ACC to stun the Clemson Tigers down in Orlando, but for now the Big Ten Champion would be alive and kicking in the College Football Playoff race.
