The defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos looked to get back on the wining track when the traveled to face the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Last season, the Denver Broncos used two different starting quarterbacks, finished 12-4 and captured the franchise’s third Lombardi Trophy.

We are 11 games into the defending Super Bowl champions’ 2016 campaign. Gary Kubiak’s club has already dropped four games. They are currently behind the 9-2 Oakland Raiders and 8-3 Kansas City Chiefs behind the power-laden AFC West.

The Broncos must deal with a wounded 2-9 Jacksonville Jaguars team on Sunday. Rookie quarterback Paxton Lynch will make his second start of the season this weekend.

Will Kubiak and his team succumb to an upset? This is a tricky spot for a Denver team that needs a win to keep pace in their quest to win a sixth consecutive division title.

Highlights

Three Stars

1. Von Miller

The Super Bowl 50 MVP enjoyed quite the evening against the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday night. In what proved to be a 30-27 overtime loss, Miller racked up 10 tackles, three sacks and knocked down a pass. He now leads the NFL with 12.5 quarterback traps and is the leader of a defensive unit that ranks fourth overall and first against the pass.

2. Blake Bortles

What has happened to a young player who looked like he was on the come a year ago? One year after finishing tied for second in the league with 35 touchdown passes (18 interceptions), Bortles has connected for only 20 scores while being picked off 13 times. Add in three lost fumbles and the third-year pro has 16 of the team’s 22 turnovers this season. But keep an eye on the quarterback as he looks to exploit the Denver defense underneath with his running backs and former Broncos’ tight end Julius Thomas.

3. Emmanuel Sanders

The talented wideout lit up the Kansas City secondary last week. Sanders was target 10 times and caught seven passes for a season-high 162 yards and a score in the overtime loss. He currently leads the club with 61 catches and 830 yards, with four touchdowns. Lynch may be able to exploit the Jacksonville secondary via the play-action pass and that’s where Sanders will come in handy.

Odds

Apparently, the oddsmakers aren’t expecting a lot of scoring this week. The OVER/UNDER for this Broncos-Jaguars tilt is 40 points. The defending Super Bowl champions from Denver are a 3.5-point favorite in this tilt.

Next Week

The Denver Broncos hit the road for the second straight Sunday against an AFC South squad as they head to Nashville to battle the Tennessee Titans. The struggling Jaguars remain at home and welcome the well-rested Minnesota Vikings. The Purple Gang comes off a 17-15 home loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night.
