Marc Gasol showed that he is not human after hitting a clutch step-back three-pointer against the New Orleans Pelicans to force overtime Monday night.
Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol has talent that is out of this world, and late against the New Orleans Pelicans Monday night, he showed again that he is simply not human.
Here’s the set up:
The Pelicans, who have been playing rejuvenated basketball of late, were just seconds away from sending the injury-riddled Grizzlies’ out of the Smoothie King Center with a loss on their backs, holding a 94-91 lead with just over 11 seconds to play.
But they forgot one thing: Memphis has an alien by the name of Marc Gasol.
Gasol has been playing and making plays that are hard to describe after Grizzlies centerpiece Mike Conley went down with back problems. With Gasol on a roll, and with a mission of keeping Memphis afloat in the ultra-tough Western Conference, Memphis’ superstar center was not about to let his team head out of the Big Easy with a loss.

So with just over 11 seconds left, and with the ball in his hands, Gasol took the inbounds pass, made a couple of dribbles, stepped back, and hit a game-tying three-pointer over the outstretched arm of Pelicans forward Terrence Jones.
It was a sick step-back that proved, once again, that Gasol deserves the respect of a superstar, and he will do whatever it takes to keep Memphis on the winning track despite being haunted by the injury bug.

Given the Grizzlies track record with injuries, let’s hope that the aliens won’t come back to Earth and take Marc Gasol back to his home planet. After all, Memphis’ game went to double-overtime thanks to Gasol’s late-game heroics to force the first extra period.
