State of Decay 2 is an upcoming open-world zombie game. On Monday, we got an update on the upcoming sequel.
We’ve been anxiously waiting for any kind of news on State of Decay 2. Since its reveal at E3 2016, we haven’t heard anything. But thanks to IGN, we got some brand new details and concept art from the game in progress.
State of Decay was a fantastic game. As a survivor in a post-apocalyptic world, your main objective was survival. The world was overrun by zombies, so you had to salvage what’s left from the abandoned houses. One of the most underrated aspects of the game was its story, where it definitely shined.
This game excelled in many areas where other zombie games fail to deliver. Unfortunately, the one key factor that held it back was the lack of multiplayer. The game was solely single-player, which was a bit of a buzzkill.
However, developer Undead Labs is changing that. Not only are they adding four-player online co-op, but the world that we’ll play in will be much bigger and have tons of new details.
Check out the trailer from E3 2016 below:
Undead Labs CEO Jeff Strain, said, “The millions of State of Decay players have been clear about what they want in State of Decay 2: A bigger, better State of Decay they can play with their friends. We intend to deliver on all of these.”
It’s very important to note that this game won’t simply be an online multiplayer experience. PvP (Player vs. Player) is nonexistent, but you can party up with three other friends and strive to survive together. The story progresses in this way. But, there are definitely ways to sabotage each other.
Design director Richard Foge said, “The primary goal for multiplayer is that other players bring an interesting new dynamic to the simulation.” He also states, “You guests cannot just say ‘screw it, I’m taking this ti PvP-town!.’ and directly attack your or any of your community members.”
“But there are plenty of ways that they can be a hostile force in your world because they can directly affect the simulation in meaningful ways,” he says.
