There was plenty of reactions to Louisville Cardinals quarterback Lamar Jackson winning the 2016 Heisman Trophy on Twitter.

Louisville Cardinals quarterback Lamar Jackson has joined a group of legends officially. On Saturday, what everyone saw as a formality became reality when Jackson was awarded the 2016 Heisman Trophy in New York City.

After a season that included 30 touchdowns through the air and 21 on the ground, Jackson was given the highest honor in college football. Wearing a bright red suit jacket, Jackson accepted his award in front of his peers. After Jackson won the Heisman as many expected, Twitter had plenty to say about the Cardinal bringing home the first Heisman in school history.

When it comes to the term football player, Jackson is the definition of it. He doesn’t do just one thing and he helps his team in whatever facet they need him to on the field. His play led to a season that had the Cardinals in the College Football Playoff discussion until the very end.

Although the team fell off a bit near the end of the season, Jackson never gave up and continued to give it his all on the field each week. 51 touchdowns in a year is an incredible accomplishment and one that ranks among the elite in history.

Where Jackson goes from here is anyone’s guess, but he will forever stand with those that have won the Heisman Trophy before him. Very few accomplishments in sports rival the Heisman and Jackson can now claim it as his own.
