1. Arizona Bowl

The Arizona Bowl was a disaster from the beginning. As one of the new bowl games last year, the game to be played in Tucson was set to be between the Sun Belt and Conference USA. However, neither of those conferences had an eligible team to play in the game.

That meant that Nevada and Colorado State got to play in the game. This year, South Alabama will take on Air Force in a game that once again highlights the fact that if you go 6-6, you deserve to play in a bowl game.

Therein lies the problem that every 6-6 team deserves to play in a bowl. It should be a privilege to be invited to a game. That’s not to say that these two particular teams aren’t worthy of playing in a game but adding more games like this proves how it’s impossible to have enough eligible teams.

The state of Arizona already has the Fiesta Bowl and the Cactus Bowl. While the Tucson area is in the southern part of the state, it’s just way too many bowl games and a reminder that way too many teams get to go to a bowl.

It’s an indictment of the bowl that it couldn’t even get eligible teams in the first year and it’s likely going to remain that way at the low end of the totem pole. It wouldn’t be surprising to see this one fold shop down the line.
