39. Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii vs. Middle Tennessee

First off, this sadly isn’t the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors of old—you know, the Colt Brennan teams where they’d throw for 46,000 yards per season. No, this is a much different program and one that’s far less explosive, exciting, and effective, frankly, as they went just 6-7 on the year. That said, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders are a fun team that might slip under the radar for some. Quarterback Brent Stockstill can sling it a bit and running back I’Tavius Mathers is a powder keg ready to explode.

Subsequently, I don’t expect this one to be all that close. The visiting Blue Raiders should dominate in convincing fashion. More importantly as to why this is No. 39, though, this will be played on Christmas Eve. Find something better to do than watch a likely blowout on the holiday.

38. St. Petersburg Bowl: Miami (OH) vs. Mississippi State

This game being ranked this low actually only has a little to do with a 5-7 team, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, being in a bowl game. Rather, it has a lot to do with the fact that said 5-7 team is going to absolutely dismantle the Miami (OH) the RedHawks. Consider this, Nick Fitzgerald and the Bulldogs had the offensive firepower to take down then No. 4-ranked Texas A&M and then win the Egg Bowl against Ole Miss. The RedHawks allowed 45 points to Iowa (yeah, that Iowa) in their season opener. This one will be over in the first quarter.

37. Arizona Bowl: South Alabama vs. Air Force

The claim to fame for the South Alabama Jaguars this season came in their opener when they upset Mississippi State. That’s a big win for the program and it’s remarkable that they pulled it off. However, they still did go on to finish just 6-6 on the year while playing in the Sun Belt. Meanwhile, the Air Force Falcons continue running the option relentlessly and finished 9-3 because of it. How these two teams got selected to play one another in the Arizona Bowl is beyond me, but it’s not going to be close. Air Force is miles better than South Alabama and it’s going to be over quickly.
