36. Heart of Dallas Bowl: Army vs. North Texas

Let’s start by saying that it’s quite incredible that the Army Black Knights were able to get over the hump and win in the Army-Navy game. That’s absolutely awesome after 14-straight losses and something that should be applauded. But please don’t let that cloud your judgment into thinking they are good. Their defense is stout, but that offense is shaky on their best day and they don’t scare anyone. Case in point is this Heart of Dallas Bowl matchup against the North Texas Mean Green, who finished the year at just 5-7. But one of those five wins came against this Army team in a 17-point victory. So call this a revenge game all you want for Army, but I don’t see this one being all that fun to watch in the slightest.

35. Cure Bowl: UCF vs. Arkansas State

Remember when the UCF Knights were famous just a year ago for a bar giving away free beer until they won a game? After that happened, they have to be feeling pretty good about themselves that they won six games to get to the Cure Bowl. Even still, this isn’t exactly a fun or even good football team when you really get down to it. And though they may not seem like much, the Arkansas State Red Wolves at least do a few things well, most notably playing defense at a high level. Because of that, I have to give the advantage here to the Red Wolves by a wide margin. They should pretty much dominate and I don’t think this one winds up being remotely close.

34. New Orleans Bowl: Southern Miss vs. Louisiana Lafayette

In fairness, I might be coming on a little harsh in regards to the New Orleans Bowl. After all, these are two teams that match up well with one another. Where the Souther Miss Golden Eagles have a fantastic offense led by quarterback Nick Mullens, the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns have a stout defense that should match up decently in this game. However, it’s hard to escape the feeling that Southern Miss is just far and away better here. They aren’t great by any means, but they are multi-faceted on offense and have real weapons. Other than a fantastic mascot, the Ragin’ Cajuns just don’t have that for me. Thus, while the stats say good matchup, I say it’s not at all.
