10. Capital One Orange Bowl

Michigan vs. Florida State

Friday, December 30, 8:00 PM on ESPN

Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, FL

Do you want to be the one to tell Samuel L. Jackson that the company he does commercials for didn’t make the top ten? I didn’t think so. But Capital One has been involved in bowl games for quite some time and are a huge company that can put out some pretty solid ads from time to time.

9. Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic

Western Michigan vs. Wisconsin

Monday, January 2, 1:00 PM on ESPN

AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX

Is it just me or is it a little strange that a company that uses mainly rubber is sponsoring the Cotton Bowl? Or that the Cotton Bowl isn’t being played at the Cotton Bowl anymore? Ah, perhaps that’s why they’re now calling it the Cotton Bowl Classic. But Goodyear has obviously been around for quite a while and so has the Cotton Bowl. So maybe that’s the connection. And they’ve got a blimp.

8. Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual

USC vs. Penn State

Monday, January 2, 5:00 PM on ESPN

Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA

I’m giving Northwestern Mutual this spot because they didn’t feel the need to put their name in front of a storied bowl game like the Rose Bowl. And yeah, they’re an industry leader and brought in nearly $28 billion in revenue last year and all that goes along with that. And would you want the Rose Bowl too low on any list that ranks bowl games, no matter how ridiculous this ranking system is?

7. Outback Bowl

Florida vs. Iowa

Monday, January 2, 1:00 PM on ABC

Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, FL

Formerly called the Hall of Fame Bowl, the Outback Bowl has become a staple of the bowl game season over the past 20 years with Outback Steakhouse being the main sponsor. Now, Outback Bowl just sounds natural and I actually commend the big chain for not putting their entire name on it and making it sound better than it would had they done so. And they’ve usually got a pretty good Big 10 vs SEC matchup to bring us, which I can equate to them usually giving me a good steak to eat. I’m not saying it happens every single time but it’s good enough to sit at number seven.

6. Las Vegas Bowl presented by Geico

Houston vs. San Diego State

Saturday, December 17, 3:30 PM on ABC

Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas, NV

The Las Vegas Bowl has had plenty of sponsors over the years like EA Sports, Sega and Maaco. They had Royal Purple motor oil the past three years but have upgraded a bit with Geico. I’ve never been a fan of the little lizard commercials but I’ve been enjoying the “it’s what you do” thing they’ve been doing recently. As much as I like motor oil commercials, I’ll go with Geico.
