2017 NFL Mock Draft: Quarterbacks rule all
By Brad Weiss
It has been another terrible season for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who many expected to take the next step and become a playoff team in 2016. Instead, they are currently in the cellar of a very mediocre division, and with the young talent on the other teams in the AFC South, they need to make some upgrades fast. Tennessee, Houston, and Indianapolis all are flat-out better than the Jaguars at this point, meaning they need to hit a home run in next April’s draft.
Jacksonville tried to upgrade their defense during the offseason, but none of those players have worked out. Still, the talent is there, and it is possible they can come together as a unit and be much better in 2017. One area where the team needs to upgrade this offseason is on the offensive line, and Alabama’s Cam Robinson is the best offensive tackle in this draft class.
The team is likely to give Blake Bortles another year under center in 2017, and running back T.J. Yeldon is very young. The offense is blessed with playmakers on the outside as well, and tight end Julius Thomas was once considered one of the best young players at this position in the game. Bolstering a weak offensive line will negate any excuse this offense will have if they struggle next season, which just may be Bortles’s last as the team starter.
