3. One and two-loss teams stand a chance

Making the regular season more important has been something brought up in a handful of sports. This includes college basketball and the NBA, among others. That topic used to be of bigger concern for college football, but with the College Football Playoff in place, it’s not as much of a talking point.

With the College Football Playoff having four teams, this gives teams better opportunities to make it into the top postseason games. It gives more schools than usual hope of making it into the top four, so a 9-2 team heading into their final game of the year may not be dead in the water. This makes their last game of the year mean something instead of just a walkthrough before a bowl game.

Going off of that, schools wouldn’t be down and out after just one loss as well. This used to be the nail in the coffin for those wanting to make the BCS National Championship Game, but now we have one-loss teams playing meaningful games late in the season to get into the top four. This keeps the teams invested, the fans looking forward to these games and a sense of intrigue.
