The Mountaineers were consistent contenders in the Big East, winning six conference titles from 2003-2011. That’s the type of dominance that welcomed West Virginia to the Big 12 even though the Mountaineers have yet to win a conference crown since joining.

Rich Rodriguez was the head coach for most of that dominant time in the early-2000s, but Dana Holgorsen has since taken over. He’s compiled a 46-30 record in Morgantown since 2011 with two 10-win seasons and five bowl invites.

While West Virginia has participated in 34 bowl games in its history, an impressive number, the Mountaineers have played in 12 “major” bowls. That includes six Gator Bowls, three Sugar Bowls, two Fiesta Bowls and an Orange Bowl. West Virginia lost its first eight major bowl appearances, but the Mountaineers have won four straight since the 2005 Sugar Bowl.

This program doesn’t scream ‘elite’ nowadays, but it did when Rich Rod was the head coach. He went 60-26 in his time with West Virginia and brought the program back to relevance.

Hail West Virginia with this t-shirt.

West Virginia has 737 all-time wins, a 15-19 bowl record, 15 conference titles and 11 consensus All-Americans.

Pat White was a two-time Heisman contender and the NCAA’s second-leading rushing quarterback of all time who played for the Mountaineers less than a decade ago. Other big names include Geno Smith, Kevin White, Pat McAfee, Tavon Austin, Adam Jones and Sam Huff.
