TNT network posts tribute to Craig Sager

Craig Sager, longtime Turner Sports broadcaster, died on Thursday at the age of 65, but was given a touching tribute by the network most associated with him.

On Thursday afternoon, longtime sports broadcast Craig Sager passed away. Following the news of his death, the Twitter account for NBA on TNT posted a touching tribute to the announcer.

Sager died following a battle with leukemia. It forced him to miss the entire 2014 NBA playoffs. TNT did a special tribute that night to him, as the broadcast crew wore suits that were similar to the bright and colorful suits Sager would be accustomed to wearing.

He could always be seen as the sideline reporter for NBA on TNT games. He covered a multitude of sporting events during his career. The 1990 FIFA World Cup, 1992 Winter Olympics, and the Goodwill Games are just a few of the events he’s covered through the years.

Sager was a reporter on TNT’s NFL pregame, halftime and post-game shows from 1990 to 1997, and was even a special addition to the NBA 2K video game series, along with fellow TNT commentators Kevin Harlan and Kenny Smith.

He was honored with the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at this year’s ESPY Awards. Turner Sports, the company Sager worked with for a good portion of his career, offered a statement on his passing on Thursday afternoon

"Craig Sager was a beloved member of the Turner family for more than three decades and he has been a true inspiration to all of us. There will never be another Craig Sager. His incredible talent, tireless work ethic and commitment to his craft took him all over the world covering sports. While he will be remembered fondly for his colorful attire and the TNT sideline interviews he conducted with NA coaches and players, it’s the determination, grace and will to live he displayed during his battle with cancer that will be his lasting impact. Our thoughts and prayers are with Craig’s wife, Stacy, and the entire family during this difficult time. We will forever be Sager Strong."

Sager was also inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame this week. He survived by his wife, Stacy, and five kids. From the FanSided network, we also send our thoughts and prayers to his family as they celebrate the life of a man that brought a colorful spin to sports.
