4. Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator

During Fisher’s tenure as Rams head coach, defense was not the No. 1 problem. He made his hay in the NFL as an assistant on that side of the ball, with stints as defensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles (1988-1990), the first rendition of the Los Angeles Rams (1991) and the then-Houston Oilers (1994) before becoming head coach of that franchise.

Fisher of course had a very long run as head coach of the Oilers/Titans, so a return to the franchise as an assistant might look odd. But before you completely write off the possibility, consider the case of Wade Phillips.

Phillips is in his second season, of his second stint, as defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos. Part of the long gap between stints in that role included two seasons as head coach of the Broncos (1993-94), with multiple other stops as a defensive coordinator or head coach along the way.

Fisher seemed to leave the Titans on fairly amicable terms after the 2010 season, so he may be open to taking a spot on head coach Mike Mularkey’s staff next season. News of the move would surely inspire some double-takes, but a Fisher-Titans reunion can’t be totally ruled out.
