Appalachian State’s Darrynton Evans took this kickoff return to the house during Saturday night’s bowl game.

On Saturday, college football’s bowl season began with a handful of games. One of them would see Appalachian State face Toledo in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl. Both teams came into this game at 9-3, looking for their 10th win of the season to close out 2016.

Around the 2:30 mark of the third quarter, Appalachian State would go back for a kickoff return. Toledo’s kicker booted it short and to the right side of the field for the Mountaineers. Darrynton Evans would recover the ball off a hop and sprint down the field, going past every Toledo defender to reach the end zone on the 94-yard kickoff return for the score. This put App State up, 28-21.

A look at the kickoff return touchdown can be seen below:

This gave Evans a total of 110 kickoff return yards with the biggest play of the game. It wouldn’t last for long, though, as Toledo quickly drove down the field, scored, and made it 28-28 at the end of three quarters.

Appalachian State has found success running the football heading into the fourth quarter. They have 200 rushing yards, 85 of which have come from quarterback Taylor Lamb. Marcus Cox pitched in 94 yards and one touchdown of his own to help the offense.

On the other hand, the Rockets have looked prolific in the air. This has seen quarterback Logan Woodside accumulate 246 passing yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Cody Thompson has 99 of those yards on five receptions.
