Louisville wasn’t expected to be any better than it was last year after losing some of its top scorers, but the Cardinals are picking up right where they left off. They’re currently 9-1 and ranked 11th in the country with their lone loss coming to Baylor.
One thing that has hampered this team, as if anything truly has, is the three-point shooting, just making 32 percent of their long-balls. However, the Cardinals make up for it with excellent rebounding.
Donovan Mitchell leads the team with 11.4 points per game and he is also averaging 5.6 rebounds. Quentin Snyder and Deng Adel’s averages are also both in double figures for the Cardinals.
On the other hand, Eastern Kentucky is just 6-5 to start the season and the Colonels haven’t beaten anyone worth noting. After a 2-4 start, however, the Colonels have won four of their last five games but are coming off a loss to Ball State.
The main reason for the early struggles? Well, Eastern Kentucky has had a tough time trying to stop anyone on defense. The Colonels might average 80 points per game, but they’re also giving up about 80, making for a treacherous start.
Nick Mayo leads the high-powered offense in scoring with 19.3 points per game to go along with 6.4 rebounds. He’s also shooting 42 percent from long range. Asante Gist is the only other player to appear in all 11 games and average double figures.
