The first Saturday of college bowl season doesn’t always feature marquee games on the schedule, but this year is a little different. On Saturday, the Houston Cougars and San Diego State Aztecs will meet in the 2016 Las Vegas Bowl.

Houston didn’t begin their season thinking they were going to end up in the Las Vegas Bowl. They had College Football Playoff aspirations. A couple of upset losses later and Tom Herman leaving for Texas has led the team to where they are at now.

Still, the Cougars would love nothing more than to finish with 10 wins again and knock off a good defensive team like San Diego State. While the Aztecs have been putting great defensive performances together, they got to where they are because of running back Donnel Pumphrey.

The running back has over 2,000 yards on the season and would love nothing more than to continue breaking records on Saturday. This should be a fantastic test for both teams and a true marquee matchup to kick off bowl season.
