R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Odds And Prediction
Bowl season is finally upon us! With the Army-Navy game last weekend, we didn’t even have to go a whole week without a game! Next up is the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl!

The bowl season kicks off with six games tomorrow. It’s almost like a whole football Saturday! I will not make a pick for the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl. I wouldn’t be doing you any justice there. The only 1-AA teams I have watched are North Dakota State and Youngstown State. I wouldn’t be making an educated pick.
However, for the rest of the bowls, you will get my picks against the spread and point wagers just like I did all season long. I didn’t have a great regular season, but I can make it look a whole lot better with a strong bowl season!
Just in case you missed any:
Gildan New Mexico Bowl
Geico Las Vegas Bowl
Raycom Camellia Bowl
AutoNation Cure Bowl
Southern Mississippi(-6.5) vs. Louisiana-Lafayette at New Orleans, LA(:3)
Southern Mississippi(6-6. 4-4 Conference USA):
Wins: at Kentucky(44-35), vs. Savannah State(56-0), at UTEP(34-7), vs. Rice(44-28), vs. Marshall(24-14), vs. Louisiana Tech(39-24)
Losses: vs. Troy(31-37), at UTSA(32-55), at LSU(10-45), vs. Charlotte(27-38), at Old Dominion(35-51), at North Texas(23-29)
Record vs. bowl teams: 2-5
The storied career of quarterback Nick Mullens comes to an end in this game. Mullens will depart Hattiesburg as the all time leading passer in Southern Mississippi history. Don’t think that’s a big deal? They had some guy named Brett Favre slinging the ball down there in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Emotions will be running high in this one!
Louisiana-Lafayette(6-6, 5-3 Sun Belt):
Wins: vs. McNeese State(30-22), vs. South Alabama(28-23), at Texas State(27-3), at Georgia Southern(33-26), vs. Arkansas State(24-19), at Louisiana-Monroe(30-3)
Losses: vs. Boise State(10-45), at Tulane(39-41), at New Mexico State(31-37), vs. Appalachian State(0-24), vs. Idaho(13-23), at Georgia(21-35)
Record vs. bowl teams: 2-4
Lafayette goes as senior running back Elijah McGuire goes. He is another back that is fun to watch, so I’m glad he is getting some exposure in a bowl game in his last collegiate game. The Cajuns were also the only team to beat Arkansas State down the stretch, so they are hitting their stride at the right time.
Prediction:
New Orleans is about equal distance away from both of these campuses, so it should be a nice and rowdy crowd on hand to bid farewell to two really good smaller college players. I do trust Nick Mullens more than McGuire simply because so much of McGuire’s success depends on how the rest of his team does. Mullens will have far more of a hand in his fate.
Pick: Southern Mississippi
