This high-profile Premier League matchup has giant title implications. Arsenal are third on 34 points. Manchester City are fourth on 33 points. Each side need a win in order to try and keep pace with nearly-flawless leaders Chelsea, who won on Saturday and have a whopping 43 points.
City are coming off a midweek home win over Watford, but have lost two of their last four league matches. They go into the match against Arsenal with a depleted midfield as Fernandinho is suspended and Ilkay Gundogan will be out for months with knee ligament damage. Vincent Kompany is still sidelined with a knee injury while Serigo Aguero is also suspended.
The injury bug has infected The Gunners even worse as Danny Welbeck, Santi Cazorla, Per Mertesacker, Mathieu Debuchy, and Shkodran Mustafi are all out. Aaron Ramsey is eyeing a return in the near future but will not be fit enough to take the field versus City.
Arsene Wenger had managed to guide his club through the rash of injuries quite admirably until their 2-1 defeat away to Everton on Tuesday. They had won three consecutive league matches previous to that. Arsenal will rely heavily on the trio of Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott, and Alexis Sanchez for goals while their makeshift back-line try to find a way to limit City chances.
