Report: Broncos’ secondary goes after offensive line after loss
According to Michael Silver, things got heated between the Denver Broncos’ secondary and offensive line after their loss to the New England Patriots.
The Denver Broncos have hit a wall over the last month. As the Broncos face a tough road the to the playoffs in a crowded AFC race, they fell out of a playoff spot after losing to the New England Patriots on Sunday. It appears that frustrations boiled over as well.
According to NFL Media Columnist Michael Silver, things got heated between the Broncos’ secondary and offensive line after the game. Witnesses in the locker room were there to see head coach Gary Kubiak ask if any player wanted to speak to the team. Offensive tackle Russell Okung thought he was the right man for the job and witnesses in the locker room say that set T.J. Ward and the secondary off.
Denver’s offensive line has really struggled to protect their quarterbacks this season and Trevor Siemian has taken his fair share of hits under center. When a season starts to go south on a team, especially the defending Super Bowl champions, everyone wants to know where things went wrong.
With the offensive line being a major weak point for the Broncos, a first-year Bronco like Okung was probably not the correct person to try and speak to the team. He is a veteran, but he’s also part of the offensive line that has been a major problem for Denver.
Their secondary is arguably their strongest point and they’ve been doing their best to limit teams on the field and held the Patriots to just 16 points. It’s certainly understandable that they aren’t too happy with their offensive line. Whether or not it has a lasting effect remains to be seen but Denver is going to need a lot of help to get to the playoffs.
