The Buffalo Bills are looking increasingly likely to move on from head coach Rex Ryan. He could be fired by the Bills in a matter of days.

It looks increasingly likely that the Buffalo Bills are going to fire head coach Rex Ryan at the end of the 2016 NFL season. Buffalo has not made the AFC Playoffs since the 1999 NFL season and boasts the longest active playoff drought in football.

Ryan has been on the hot seat for a while now. It was first reported last week that he could be let go at season’s end prior to the Bills’ home loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 15. Now it seems that Ryan could be coaching his last game with the Bills organization.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “Ryan is probably approaching his final games as the Bills head coach.” Schefter would add that “Ryan is aware of what’s ahead” and this “awkward situation” going on in Orchard Park.

The notion is the Pegula Family is going to retain general manager Doug Whaley in the hopes of paring him with his third head coach since coming to Buffalo. Whaley worked with Doug Marrone for two years before Ryan arrived in 2015.

Ryan has been a players’ coach for years and a solid defensive game planner. However, his offenses rarely do much on Sundays, as Ryan has a reputation for only caring about one side of the ball. This was a strange hire for the Bills to make any way. It’s almost as if the Bills organization had buyer’s remorse instantly before the ink even dried on Ryan’s contract to be head coach.

Parting ways with Ryan is understandable, but the commitment to Whaley by the Pegula Family is even odder. Whaley reportedly wants to bench franchise quarterback Tyrod Taylor. What are the chances that the Bills are going to get a solid head coach that wants to partner with Whaley?
