Brock Osweiler benched against the Jaguars
By Kareem Gantt
The Houston Texans decided they had seen enough of Brock Osweiler, benching him for Tom Savage in the second quarter of their game on Sunday.
The Houston Texans’ $72 million man will now take a seat on the bench.
Brock Osweiler, whom the Texans brought in over the summer as the answer under center, was benched on Sunday in favor of backup Tom Savage following two interceptions. It was a benching in the making.
Despite the Texans holding first place in a tight AFC South race, their offense has struggled mightily all season with Osweiler at the helm. Osweiler has not been the star the Texans thought he would become after he signed a $72 million deal this past offseason, throwing for 14 touchdowns and 16 interceptions for a 73.4 QB rating, well near the bottom of starting quarterbacks.
Texans fans had been growing restless with Osweiler’s performance, and after a dreadful first quarter against last-place Jacksonville, head coach Bill O’Brien had seen enough.
Osweiler threw two bad interceptions that set up the Jaguars 13-0 lead, the first on a high pass that glanced off wide receiver Will Fuller’s fingertips into the waiting arms of Jacksonville corner Jalen Ramsey, and the second on an overthrow to star receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
Osweiler was then booed heavily by the sellout crowd at NRG Stadium, and, to light a fire in their sinking offense, he replaced Osweiler with the former fourth-round pick from Pittsburgh to loud cheers from the Texan faithful.

it is unclear at the moment if the Osweiler benching is just for this game or if it will be permanent, but as of now, Osweiler will have to watch the game from the bench.
