Lane Kiffin may be overqualified to coach the Florida Atlantic Owls, but this pairing could be mutually beneficial for Kiffin and FAU in all honesty. Kiffin has worked hard at repairing his image as a head coaching candidate after three great years as Nick Saban’s offensive coordinator in Alabama.

There is a ton of football talent for Kiffin to land at the mid-major university in Boca Raton. He’ll be the biggest fish in the small pond, but that might do every well for him to not be coaching a major football program. Things didn’t go over so well at either the University of Tennessee or the University of Southern California.

Kiffin is still young, only in his 40s. He can eventually leave to a bigger and better job in a few years if he’s ready. In the meantime, he gets to work with his brother Chris Kiffin, who he pried away from Ole Miss to be his defensive coordinator.

The Kiffins are going to try and make FAU a family atmosphere and a technically sound football program. Everybody involved can benefit from this situation. Look for FAU to become a solid mid-major program under Kiffin’s watch the next couple of years.
