The Charlie Strong experiment with the Texas Longhorns might have been a disaster, but him going to be the next head coach of the South Florida Bulls seems like a great rebound job for him for the next few years.

Strong has great recruiting roots in Florida from his time being Urban Meyer’s defensive coordinator at the University of Florida. When Strong was at the University of Louisville, the Cardinals football program always recruited well in the Sunshine State. That has continued into the second Bobby Petrino era in Louisville.

South Florida is already a strong AAC program. Willie Taggart quickly turned that football team around in a few short years in Tampa Bay. Taggart is an offensive mind that really wanted Strong to join him in Eugene with the Oregon Ducks as his defensive coordinator. They would have complemented each other quite well.

Strong at South Florida means that the Bulls can be a perennial 10-win team as long as he stays in Tampa. He is a great recruiter and would love to get some of the best in-state talent to come to the Tampa campus. It’s a win for both South Florida and Strong.
