Duke’s Grayson Allen was suspended for his latest tripping incident, so how long will he be out of action for?
Wednesday night we were treated to the latest installment of Duke star Grayson Allen tripping an opposing player on the court in the Blue Devils’ win over Elon. This time, not only did Allen trip another player on the floor, but he then proceeded to have a full-on meltdown on the bench afterwards as people tried to calm him down. It was a truly bizarre incident overall.
As soon as the incident occurred, the calls were coming from far and wide for Duke or the ACC to reprimand Allen with a suspension. Following the game, Coach K spoke about what took place, but no punishment was announced. A few hours later, though, that tune changed. Early Thursday morning, Coach K and Duke issued a statement noting that Allen will be suspended indefinitely after they had the opportunity to look at the tape.
So, for those of you that were maybe wondering just how long Allen will be out of action, that’s not known at this point as the suspension is — well, indefinite. What is clear, though, is that Allen and Duke most certainly need to sit down and sort some issues out. The tripping was one thing, but that tantrum on the bench was something completely different entirely.
But going back to the suspension, the timing of it holds some significance. That contest against Elon was the last non-conference game of the season, as the Blue Devils open up ACC play next against a Virginia Tech team that is no slouch whatsoever; they’re 10-1 on the season. So should Allen even miss a game –because there is a chance he won’t miss any game time– then he’d be missing a pretty crucial ACC game right off the bat. That could end up going a long way come spring.
Whatever the case ultimately ends up being, it’s clear that Allen should not be on the court until all of the issues here are cleared up.
