Louisiana Tech(-6.5) vs. (25)Navy at Ft Worth, TX(4):
Louisiana Tech(8-5, 6-3 Conference USA):
Wins: vs. South Carolina State(53-24), vs. UTEP(28-7), vs. Western Kentucky(55-52), at Massachusetts(56-28), at Florida International(44-24), vs. Rice(61-16), at North Texas(45-24), vs. UTSA(63-55)
Losses: at Arkansas(20-21), at Texas Tech(45-59), at Middle Tennessee State(34-38), at Southern Mississippi(24-39), at Western Kentucky(44-58)
Record vs. bowl teams: 3-4
Ryan Higgins picked up right where Jeff Driskel left off. The Bulldogs didn’t miss a beat offensively this year. The defense was once again a work in progress. UTEP was the only team that they held under 14 points. The option offense of Navy could give the defense some issues, but this offense is a force to be reckoned with.
(25)Navy(9-4, 7-2 AAC):
Wins: vs. Fordham(52-16), vs. Connecticut(28-24), at Tulane(21-14), vs. Houston(46-40), vs. Memphis (42-28), vs. Notre Dame(28-27), vs. Tulsa(42-40), at East Carolina(66-31), at SMU(75-31)
Losses: at Air Force(14-28), at South Florida(45-52), vs. Temple(10-34), vs. Army(17-21)
Record vs. bowl teams: 3-4
Navy won a lot of close games this year with Will Worth under center. They were 5-2 in games decided by one score. Worth missed the Army game, which leaves Navy down to their third string quarterback. The defense was not great, but Navy came up with a lot of big plays on defense when it counted. That made the team look better than they maybe were.
Prediction:
This is going to be another high scoring game during bowl season. Navy was really humming with Worth under center until the Temple game when Worth and the rest of the offense were stymied. Louisiana Tech wont be able to pull something like that off, but they can score with the best of them. I’m not entirely sure that Navy can keep up with them being on their third string quarterback.
Pick: Louisiana Tech
