The Oakland Raiders beat the Indianapolis Colts Saturday, but they still lost as quarterback Derek Carr broke his fibula.

The Oakland Raiders’ playoff aspirations were all but shattered Saturday, as they will be without starting quarterback Derek Carr for the rest of the season after Carr broke his fibula.

Carr was injured with just under 11 minutes to play in the fourth quarter. With the Raiders leading 33-14, Carr was sacked by the Colts’ Trent Cole. Carr’s right leg got trapped under Cole, resulting in the injury. Carr was in pain, and seen screaming while on the field.

Carr was helped to the sideline by the team’s trainers, where the Raiders medical staff cut off his shoe and immediately took him for X-rays. In a post-game interview, head coach Jack Del Rio confirmed that Carr had broken his fibula and will undergo surgery. Del Rio did not have any timetable for a possible return for Carr this season, but said that his franchise quarterback is out indefinitely.

Matt McGloin replaced Carr following the injury and is expected to start the Raiders week 17 game against Denver. McGloin is in his fourth season with the Raiders and has started six games his rookie season for the Raiders. For his career, McGloin has completed 58 percent of his passes for 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Raiders signed McGloin as an undrafted free agent from Penn State in 2013.

Connor Cook will serve as McGloin’s backup. Cook was drafted by the Raiders in the fourth round, but he has been inactive for every game this season.

Earlier in the day, Tennessee Titans starting quarterback Marcus Mariota left his team’s game with a broken fibula in a similar looking play. The Titans saw their playoff chances take a dramatic hit after losing 38-17 to divisional rival Jacksonville.
