The Seattle Seahawks have lost wide receiver Tyler Lockett for the season after breaking his leg Saturday.
The Seattle Seahawks will be without Tyler Lockett for the rest of the season, after the second year pro broke his leg in a week 16 game against the Arizona Cardinals.
In a post-game interview, Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll confirmed that Lockett will be out for the season. Carroll added that Lockett will require surgery to repair the broken leg.

Trailing 14-3, the Seahawks threw a pass to Lockett near the goal line. Lockett made the catch on the one-yard line, but was injured in the process.
While catching a ball at the goal line from Russell Wilson, Cardinals defensive back Brandon Williams fell on top of Lockett’s right leg. Replays showed Lockett’s leg move in two different directions.

Lockett finishes the season with 41 catches for 597 yards and a touchdown. In addition to taking snaps on offense, Lockett also serves as a returner for the Seahawks. Lockett’s average kick return is 26 yards and his average punt return is 9.2 yards. Hopefully this is not the type of injury that limits or shortens his career.
The Seahawks will now need to find a way to replace Lockett, who gave them a receiver who was not afraid to go over the middle, but could also use his explosive speed to stretch the field. In the return game, the 5’10” Lockett could use his quick ability to change direction to make defenders miss. Finding a return man as good as Lockett will be almost impossible to do this late in the season.

Lockett was not the only player to break his leg on Saturday. In the early games, Tennessee Titans starting quarterback Marcus Mariota fractured his fibula in a game against Jacksonville. In the afternoon games, Oakland Raiders starting quarterback Derek Carr broke his fibula in a game against the Colts.
