Did you buy a gift at Target that you turned out not to need? What about if you’ve received a gift with a receipt and you want to return it? Here’s a guide.
Sometimes you buy some extra presents just in case online shipping doesn’t come through. Other times, you may have gotten a present with a gift receipt that you really would like to return. Still other times, you might just have bought something for a gift to yourself that you’re regretting now. Target has become a stop for all those kinds of things, but now you might be wondering how to return some of those items.
We’ve consulted Target’s return policy, and we’ll break it down here.
If You’re the Original Purchaser
Target allows you to return most unopened items within 90 days. Some things have a different return policy, which you can find on your receipt. (There are also holiday exceptions.) If you’ve since lost the receipt, you can bring the method of payment, an ID, and the item to the service counter. If you bought the item with your REDCard, there should be no problem looking the purchase up.
Also, we’ll say it here: always get gift receipts for items you’re buying as presents. Even if you turn out not to need them, it’s a really great idea.
If You Have a Gift Receipt
If you received a present that came with a gift receipt, you will receive a Target gift card for the item, which isn’t such a bad thing considering everything sold at Target.
If the person didn’t give you a gift receipt, this will be a bit awkward, but they can request a gift receipt after the fact. Basically, if you aren’t entirely sure, just include the gift receipt. It’s safer that way.
