No. 2 RB Cam Akers commits to Florida State

It seems that the Florida State Seminoles have their replacement in Dalvin Cook, as No. 2 running back Cam Akers commits to Florida State on Tuesday.
Blue-blood college football teams like the Florida State Seminoles land top-tier recruits all the time. This is part of why blue-bloods are blue-bloods. That being said, sometimes a program in dire need of a playmaker at a position is able to get that with one five-star recruit.
While Florida State is likely losing star running junior running back Dalvin Cook to the 2017 NFL Draft, the Seminoles were able to land the No. 2 running back in the 2017 high school recruiting class in Cam Akers.
Akers committed to Florida State on Tuesday night out of Clinton High School in Clinton, Mississippi. 24/7 Sports has Akers as the No. 2 running back in his high school graduating class, the No. 1 high school player from Mississippi, and the No. 4 player nationally.
While Akers had the hat ceremony with six schools in the running, including Ole Miss, Tennessee, and LSU, Florida State had been Akers’ leader for a while. 24/7 Sports had him at 81 percent to go to Tallahassee in Jimbo Fisher’s 2017 recruiting class.
Fisher’s ability to land him out of the heart of SEC country is a huge get for the ACC power. Florida State can definitely contend for a national championship in Akers’ three or for years in school. The opportunity to get playing time right away at Florida State with Cook almost certainly leaving for the NFL absolutely sealed the deal for him.

Florida State runs one of the most prolific pro-style offenses in the country under Fisher. Landing Akers could be a crown jewel for the 2017 Florida State recruiting class.
