Military Bowl, Temple vs Wake Forest: Highlights, score and recap
What happened at the Military Bowl between Temple and Wake Forest?
On Tuesday afternoon, the Military Bowl would take place between Temple and Wake Forest. This would see AAC and ACC teams go to battle with some intriguing storylines heading into this one. It includes the “WakeyLeaks” scandal for the Demon Deacons, and the loss of head coach Matt Rhule to Temple. How would both teams play in this game?
Wake Forest dominated the first half by scoring two early touchdowns in the first quarter. Then they added another 17 points in the second quarter to extend their lead to 31-10 going into the half. This saw quarterback John Wolford throw two touchdowns before going out with an injury. Running backs Cade Carney and Matt Colburn each chipped in a rushing touchdown too.
The second half would go in a different direction, though, with Temple coming out firing. Phillip Walker hit Adonis Jennings for a 58-yard touchdown to narrow the score to 31-17. A field goal would soon make it 31-20 with all the momentum going the Owls way.
In the fourth quarter, Temple would add another field goal to make it 31-23. They would get the ball back again and drove it into Wake Forest’s territory. It would come down to a fourth and 28 after a 22-yard loss, which led to a field goal being kicked to make it 31-26 with 3:56 remaining in the game.
Temple needed the stop, but Wake Forest had an 80-yard return, the worst thing they needed with just minutes remaining. This led to a field goal and defensive stop to end the game at 34-26, Demon Deacons.
