Debbie Reynolds, mother of Carrie Fisher, has died at the age of 84 just a day following the death of her daughter Carrie.

In a huge blow to Carrie Fisher’s family, matriarch Debbie Reynolds has passed away at the age of 84 after being rushed to the hospital following having trouble breathing. She had been at her son Todd’s house in Beverly Hills planning her daughter’s funeral services when emergency responders were called amid reports that she was having trouble breathing. Reynolds is thought to have suffered a stroke.

A bonafide member of Hollywood Royalty, Reynolds has been performing for over 70 years, known as much for her wide array of films as she was for her marriages. She famously married Eddie Fisher, Carrie’s father, and then the couple divorced after he had an affair with Reynolds’ best friend Elizabeth Taylor.

Reynolds starred in many popular films such as Singing in the Rain and Oklahoma!, and she was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in The Unsinkable Molly Brown. She was also a regular on the Las Vegas performance circuit, and her relationship with Carrie was the subject of Carrie’s book and later film, Postcards from the Edge, where she and Carrie were played by Shirley MacLaine and Meryl Streep.

Reynolds was at her daughter’s side at the hospital when Carrie Fisher was rushed there after suffering a heart attack on the flight back from a book singing in London on Friday. Fisher died on Tuesday morning. Messages of sympathy and condolences have been pouring in from fans all over the world, including a long list of Hollywood elite who knew Carrie and her famous family. Carrie’s death was devastating for Reynolds, who had suffered from health issues that were likely exacerbated by the tragedy.
