The college football bowl season is continuing on as we are days away from 2017. The top games haven’t been played yet, but as we near them, one of the matchups taking place will be South Florida vs. South Carolina on Thursday night. This will take place at Legion Field in Birmingham, AL.
USF head coach Willie Taggart recently got hired away by Oregon, so they hired former Texas head coach Charlie Strong for the 2017 season. Taggart led the Bulls to a very successful season, as they went 10-2, marking a third consecutive season of gaining two wins on the final record.
Quarterback Quinton Flowers, who had a great 2016 season, led the Bulls as one of their top players. He put up 2,551 passing yards and 1,425 rushing yards with 37 total touchdowns. Flowers never got a ton of recognition given the schools he plays at, so this may be the evening where he gets a few extra looks. If he continues this production on Thursday and in his senior season, then this may change quickly.
South Carolina had a surprisingly successful season under first-year head coach Will Muschamp. They went 6-6 with a roster that not many expected to produce, but they were able to just sneak into the bowl season.
Jake Bentley took over the starting quarterback job for South Carolina around midway through the season. He didn’t do a poor job, but it was better than expected for a true freshman. The overall offense turned out poor with just 27 offensive touchdowns, but Bentley did enough to keep the job for potentially the long-term. How will he fare against South Florida?
