European NBA Prospect Rankings: Winter 2016
11. Kostja Mushidi, SG, Mega Leks
2017 Draft Prospect
2016-2017 Stats: 9.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists per game
Can the NBA-level wing prospect from Mega Leks shoot? That’s the question mark for the second year in a row. After Timothe Luwawu took NBA Draft scouts by storm in 2016, the pink-and-green squad has another athletic wing on its depth chart in Mushidi. The 6-foot-5 German national is an impressive athlete, and projects as a 3-and-D wing in the NBA, a player with the athleticism to be a wrecking ball in transition and a powerful defensive disruptor.
Much like Luwawu, Mushidi’s biggest question mark has been refinement. He has plenty of the raw athletic attributes you’d want in a wing, but his actual NBA skills have been hit-and-miss. Mushidi hasn’t shot well throughout his career, flashing decent mechanics but hitting just 35.5 percent from outside this season. He also hasn’t been very technically sound on the defensive end, relying more on his athleticism than positioning, leading to a surprising 4.5 fouls per 40 minutes, a bad mark for a guard.
However, he’s shown flashes. He’s shown decent technique in getting to the rim off the pick-and-roll, and he’s done some of his most consistent finishing out of these sets:
Continued development of his on-ball skills, as well as defensive fundamentals, will be key for him moving to the next level. He is a potential first-rounder, but will need some time in the D-League before he’s ready for rotation minutes.
