3. Nerlens Noel – Philadelphia 76ers

Nerlens Noel is in the same logjam as Jahlil Okafor. The only difference between the two is that Noel has been quite verbal about his disappointment with it. He is receiving limited action on the court after returning from an early season injury and appears to be an afterthought in Philadelphia.

Due to this situation, Nerlens is probably the first big man that the Sixers will choose to move. While this might upset fans of the 76ers that love his energy, it is music to the ears of the Boston front office.

Noel’s strongest attributes are his rebounding and defense. His exceptional athleticism and high motor make him an extremely versatile player. He is capable of handling big men down low, but can also keep up with wing players. Standing at 6’11” with a wingspan of 7’4″, Noel’s length adds even more potency to his elite defensive upside. He can basically guard all five positions on the court. The knock against Nerlens is his limited offensive ability. However, he is only 22 years old and there’s time for him to improve in that area. He is an ideal big man that the Celtics can benefit from.

One deal that Boston can make for Noel is sending Amir Johnson, Marcus Smart and first round draft pick to the Sixers. Johnson may not have the same defensive upside as Nerlens, but he is still a capable defender with a good motor. Philadelphia also needs some help in their backcourt and Smart is an upgrade over Sergio Rodriguez and T.J. McConnell.

Another thing to note is that Noel is in a contract year. Therefore, he would be extremely motivated and provide impressive play for the Celtics if they acquire him. It’s clear that he’s unhappy with the 76ers right now. Boston would be foolish not to explore the chance to make him happy again by trying to bring him into a winning situation.
